Effects of Sleep Deprivation on the Brain Electrical Activity in Mice

Sleep plays a crucial role in maintaining brain health. Insufficient sleep leads to an enhanced permeability of the blood–brain barrier and development diseases small cerebral vessels. In this study, we discuss possibility detecting changes electrical activity associated with deficit, using extended detrended fluctuation analysis (EDFA). We apply approach electroencephalograms (EEG) mice identify signs that can be caused by short-term deprivation (SD). Although SD effect is usually subject-dependent, group animals shows appearance pronounced decrease EDFA scaling exponents, describing power-law correlations impact nonstationarity as fairly typical response. Using EDFA, revealed 9 out 10 (Mann–Whitney test, p<0.05) outperforms DFA results (7 mice). This tool may promising method for quantifying SD-induced pathological brain.
